Cold. Nerys was cold, her ears were cold, her tail was cold, it was a sensation she barely even understood. Where did mom and dad go? She gazed around restlessly from her increasingly uncomfortable shelter, trying to see where they went. Were they going to come back with food? The kit hoped so. She felt weak, she didn't like feeling weak. She'd tried moving earlier, but it only unraveled the two siblings' blanket, inviting more cold in. It made more sense to wait.
Suddenly another serval stood over them. Was this their dad? He looked like it. He didn't smell like it. Nerys mewed loudly, squirming as he tried to reach out to her. Where was the food? He didn't bring food! The silver kitten was much less calm compared to her brother; she wanted to understand what was going on, and now. Another angry roar should do it. She mewed again at Pierce, but was sabotaged by her own sleepiness as that mew turned into a long yawn.

//no prob!
The older serval's quiet voice served to help calm Nerys down a bit, frustration turning to curiosity. As he pressed his face closer, the kitten would move from her blanket to extend a small pink paw toward his muzzle, running it over the row of clawmarks on his cheek for no other reason than because she wanted to know what it felt like. Smooth and rough, it looked like he was bald in those few marks. She wondered why there wasn't any fur there.
The cold encouraged her to quickly retract her paw. She inched a bit closer to her brother for warmth, ears angled back apologetically at the cold she brought in from outside their little blanket-world. Soon she noticed the stranger was doing something with his paws and some cloth, which was quickly followed by a rush of warmth. She could actually feel her ears again! Nerys echoed the friendly adult's purring, content to stay a little more still now that her immediate problem had been solved.

Nerys wasn't too sure what she had to gain from attending a meeting, but it sounded kind of cool. Even though listening could be boring, it was the leader speaking! The small kit imagined what she would say if she were leader. Probably something along the lines of, everyone has to eat breakfast for dinner every day, and nobody ever has to do chores ever again.
Not recognizing many others, she practically clung to Pierce for now, though she continued to stare at all the others in the audience. So many people...

Nerys couldn't understand why everyone was being mean to the big dog. He was giving out autographs! For free! That was something heroes did, right? They were nice to people without asking for anything in return. The silver serval kitten padded as quickly to one of the piles of photos as her small legs could carry her, looking up at the coyote with large, curious eyes. "Ex-cuse me sir, can I have a autograph please?" Yup, 'a autograph.' She was still getting the hang of grammar and the like, but she wanted that autograph and she was going to have it.

"Congratulations everyone!" Nerys grinned back at her brother, giving him a playful nudge. "You'd be up there if you weren't late," she teased him. She'd considered pranking him by pretending she'd been demoted while he wasn't there to listen, but Pierce would probably scold her for that.

Although she was tempted to join her brother in dozing off, Nerys was alerted by other presences, other voices talking to the friendly adult. The kitten gazed up at them with wide, curious eyes. One figure looked as confused as the kitten felt, while another serval came closer to her. Feeling a soft bump in the blanket, she looked down to see a colorful ring of... something in front of her. She gave the second friendly adult a big, happy mew before promptly clamping her jaws down on the flowers, chewing on what she expected to be food. It tasted good. She continued chewing.
A smaller cat approached, and the silver serval's ears perked up and followed him as he showed up. A friend? This one spoke with an angry voice, prompting Nerys to shrink uncertainly back into the safety of her blanket. Taking the flower crown with her, of course, she shifted so that now only the top half of her head was exposed to the cold. It turned out to be more comfortable than she expected; eyes drooping, she would quickly fall asleep in this new position.

Nerys had completely misinterpreted Vela's words to meaning the entire person was a robot, not just the leg. "You're a robot? That's so cool!" she mewed in her version of a compliment. And then as quickly as her attention was drawn to her, it was gone. The kit made a run for the paintbrushes, picking the biggest one she could find. "Hi Mr. Angry, hi Mr. Everett," she greeted the other two as she wandered over to the leg itself. She would draw a big red heart right on the paw, so that her clanmate could know she was loved every time she looked down!

Back? That was a weird name, but there were a lot of weird names around here. "Nice to meet you, Back! I'm Nerys!" The serval kitten spoke as she bounded over to see who had just entered the camp, not even considering the possibility that the other meant they were back from somewhere else. She was simply too excited to meet new faces, after all, she hadn't met this caracal before - just like many others in her clan.

"Okay!" There was pretty much nothing Nerys could do with this information, but everyone looked happy and that made her happy. She couldn't understand why it was good to lose allies, though. Wasn't it always better to have more friends?

Ever since she'd been found on the border, Nerys practically attached herself to Pierce's side, having quickly accepted that the kind serval would take better care of her and her brother than their true parents ever had. The silver serval kit had been following Pierce around and spotted it at about the same time as him: another kit! This one was maybe two months older than Nerys, but apparently... with a lot more problems. Maybe they didn't have a friendly adult like Nerys did. Like her father, she instinctively wanted to help out, though she wasn't sure how. It was uncomfortable to watch someone else be sad while she was having an otherwise pleasant day.
Wide hazel eyes looked over at Chesspieces, then at Pierce, then back to the kit. What they were doing seemed to be working, so she puffed her chest out all adult-like and braved the rest of the distance to the other kit. Though, approaching them was one thing, knowing what to say was another. "You can stay here?" she offered awkwardly.

And of course, the silver serval kitten showed up right on cue. Nerys stayed close to Pierce and Jerseyboy, staring curiously at the kitsune. She didn't understand what he was saying. How could a person be tight? And what was a... "Dad, what is a fuck?" she asked uncertainly, because by the stranger's presentation of it, it sounded fun and casual. "Is it a game?"

//im really sorry if this sounds like she's saying a slur, i really dont mean it that way ;-;
In Nerys's professional opinion, playing make-believe was fun, and playing dress-up was fun, too. But she usually preferred to be the knight in shining armor, or whatever the equivalent was in whichever imaginary era she chose. It was so much more fun to fight valiantly and triumph over an evil foe than it was to drink tea and talk about some far-off events in the kingdom. Which kingdom? Why, the Kingdom of Parkerlandia, of course!
But she was cool with playing as whatever if an adult was involved. They usually made it fun no matter what they were pretending to be, Nerys wasn't sure how they did it. Maybe it was the fact that the costumes consisted of more than just wearing a rock on one's head and calling it a helmet. When she heard her father talking about a fairy-themed party, the young serval bounded over, eyes wide with curiosity. "I wanna join! Will Mr. Everett be here? He and you would be the prettiest fairies of all!" A fairy didn't have to be a girl, Peter Pan was a fairy right? And plus, Mr. Everett was good with flowers and so were fairies.

"But why does he get to say it-" Nerys's ears drooped a bit at her father's reaction. She knew her father only got like this when he was trying to protect her from something, though the child couldn't possibly imagine what was so bad about a f-- a word. It really was a game, wasn't it? And the adults didn't want her to find out about it because they wanted to play it all by themselves! That didn't seem very fair at all. Maybe she'd demand the truth from Jerseyboy later, he seemed to know what all the grown-ups were talking about.
Still, her father's mini-lecture was starting to get too long for her attention span, so she would quickly agree with him just to end the three-sentence speech. "Okay, okay," she agreed reluctantly, turning to follow Pierce when another clanmate passed by and said something else to the stranger. It was customary to buy a drink? And ask for... "Dad, what's a...?"

"Yeah! Can I be a forest fairy?" Nerys bounced on her paws with excitement, going straight for the brightest and glitteriest face paints she could see. She already knew what she wanted - sprawling light and dark greens with a dotted line of white to connect it all, and lime green wings to go with it. It'd bring out her eyes! Maybe she'd even adopt the look as an everyday outfit, because she could already feel the awesomeness of her costume idea. She knew Pierce would probably be nice enough to entertain the thought, but then again, her dad was so busy all the time. It didn't seem very nice to ask him to do more than he already did.
She looked over Aurora, the weird woman who said words Nerys couldn't understand. The fennec would look good with a firey themed costume, she thought to herself. After her own makeup was done, the kit might bring some paints over and ask politely to paint Aurora's face, though it would end up as an uncoordinated mess of reds and yellows.
The kitten jumped back as Beck showed up, only to adopt an outgoing demeanor. Obviously, the spiritlike thing was just feeling left out! "Do you want to play fairies with us?" She offered, full of good intentions even if she ended up completely misreading the poltergeist.

Nerys at least knew what herbs were. She knew because she was constantly having to have them applied to some new injury, always the result of her reckless playing and exploring that ended up in scrapes and thorns and the occasional bite from a hostile bug or snake. She could recognize the basic herbs that were usually used on her, some of which were even pretty flowers. Maybe she could gather some other flowers while she was here and make a flower crown for dad? Just like Mr. Everett always did!
"I wanna help," the serval kitten half-requested, half-demanded as she hopped closer to the two. It certainly couldn't hurt to get to know the two familiar faces better, anyway; she'd seen Jacob and Albion around but hadn't had the courage to approach them. "What kind of herbs are we looking for?"
WE ARE THE ONES TO IGNITE THE DARKENED SKY ➳
The serval kitten had been exploring the woods on account of a dare. She was intent to prove she could handle herself when she was out alone, plus if she needed help she could just shout, right? Perhaps not. As she heard something like the sound of clapping in the distance, Nerys headed over to investigate, hurrying her steps as the sound was followed by a cry for help.
Death wasn't a foreign concept to Nerys; she was a carnivorous animal, she ate small creatures, it was better that they weren't alive to scream while the meat was being ripped from their bones. Still, she'd never considered the idea of wanting to die. And yet, oddly enough, the figure before her seemed to have died by his own hand.
She just stood there, staring at her dead clanmate. Wondering how much red was going to come out of his head.

'He's gone,' the medic said. That much was clear. The body looked all crumpled-up like a rag, or maybe a statue, a statue in a crimson fountain. She didn't like the sight of it, she didn't understand why, she didn't know what to think.
Nerys let her head be guided away, though her gaze lingered on the body for a moment more before she looked up at her father. Maybe he had some answere. "Dad? What happened to him?" the kitten asked in a high-pitched voice. The BlizzardClanner had died, obviously, but what did it mean? What was that thing in his paw, how did his brains get all the way over there? And most importantly, how could a member of BlizzardClan die? They were supposed to be strong together, they were supposed to be invincible. They weren't supposed to die like pieces of prey, they were supposed to die happy in their sleep, surrounded by friends and family.
She looked over at Beck as they spoke. Clean up... Nerys had no response. The good thing about being so young was that she didn't have to pay attention to messes, because someone else would always take care of it. She looked back up at her father. "Dad, will I ever have to clean you up?"

//not interested in the position atm!
Nerys tended to get hurt a lot, and while it sometimes got her in trouble with the grown-ups, she wanted to take care of it herself. She watched the medic team with a determined expression, before heading closer so she could be at the front of the crowd; she wasn't tall enough to see over others just yet. The serval kitten's gaze wandered to the stuffed animals Lottie had. Those weren't real animals! What were they doing here?
